Workplace Safety Threats List

The list below comprise a list of threats to the safety of Langley Flying School's workplace safety, and summarize the remedial measures in place to minimize those threats.

Fire

Threat Level: Moderate

Remedial Measures:
  1. Monthly fire extinguisher equipment check.
  2. Monthly smoke detector check.
  3. Monthly check of exit sign functioning.
  4. Monthly check of emergency light equipment.
  5. Monthly check that evacuation display information is properly displayed and accessible to students and staff.

Earthquake

Threat Level: Moderate

Remedial Measures:
  1. Monthly inspection for earthquake safety and security, ensuring that shelving, display and storage within the school facilities are secure and do not present a risk to safety.
  2. Monthly check that evacuation display information is properly displayed and accessible to students and staff.
  3. Monthly check of exit sign functioning.
  4. Monthly check of emergency light equipment.

Aircraft De-cing Procedures

Threat Level: Moderate

Remedial Measures
  1. All staff members using Isopropyl Alcohol (rubbing alcohol) have initial and recurrent training on the safe use of this produce for the purpose of deicing, including product storage and handling protocols.
  2. Ensure the Hazmat Safety Card for Isopropyl Alcohol is current and up-to-date.
  3. Ensure Langley Flying School protocols for aircraft deicing, as published in the Standard Operating Procedures, are in accordance with best practices for workplace safety.
  4. Ensure Langley Flying School's supply of Isopropyl Alcohol is stored in a safe and secure location in accordance with recommended best practices.

Ramp Surface Ice

Threat Level: Moderate

Remedial Measures:
  1. All flight instructors have initial and recurrent training regarding the detection of ramp surface icing, the conditions underwhich it forms, and the procedure of deploying warning signs and sand to minimize falling risk.
  2. Conduct monthly inspection during the critical winter months to ensure warning signs and sand is readily available to staff should ramp surface icing occur.
